Thanks TechCrunch for Taking Up My Quora Crusade

Sometimes tipping TechCrunch works.  Here's the TC article - http://techcrunch.com/2011/02/14/quora-to-oddly-named-users-papers-please/.

There is actually one inaccuracy in the TC article.  I have not submitted any government ID's to Quora.  Here is the original email to TC.

Hello TechCrunch,

I wanted to share my Quora user-name fiasco. Initially getting blocked was annoying, but it has gone beyond that stage. Now has progressed to a Kafkaesque state. Now it is more laughable than anything else. It also highlights the fact that Quora takes its administration way too seriously.

Without further ado, here is the story.

• Starting Jan 30, 2011, my user account has been suspended because a Quora admin suspected that I am not using a real full name.

• On Feb 3, 2011, I responded to let them know that I am indeed using my real full name. http://www.getquikblog.com/2011/02/if-quora-doesnt-recognize-you-do-you.html

• After no response, I again responded to Quora (now Feb 9, 2011) asking them to acknowledge that I am indeed using my real name and would like my account reactivated. http://www.getquikblog.com/2011/02/quora-is-it-something-i-said.html

• Check out the Quora response Feb 9, 2011. Driver’s license, Passport, Birth certificate. Really?

Perhaps instead of requiring me to present Quora with my government documents, they could simply Google “ken ryu getquik”. See search results below. I am looking to answer and ask questions, not take out a mortgage out on a house.

Thought TC readers might find the experience amusing. It has reached that stage for me.

Regards,

Ken Ryu – seriously, this is my name.

That is a hilarious story. It never occurred to me that your name was from Street Fighter for some reason, even though I used to play that game. Go figure.

Good luck on getting by Quora's uptight user verification measures!

Hey Mike, Nice to hear from you. I'm leaving it alone for now. Either way is ok. The issue with Quora I see now is that the questions are getting repetitive. Hopefully they'll begin to broaden and become less hyper tech focused.
