More Tin Cup than Tiger

We decided to take a trip out to the mini-links - Golfland in Sunnyvale. Let's just say that we were not in contention for any course records today.

Andrew took the honors shooting a 42. Good deal at Costco for discounted Golfland gift certificates. $16.99 for a $25 golf certificate.

The hole that ruined our scorecards was the elevated hole. Up the hill, down the hill, repeat.

To Waiter.com - We're Flattered

We were heading out to lunch at World Wrapps at the Mercado the other day. World Wrapps participates in both the GetQuik.com and the Waiter.com network. At their store, World Wrapps has a brochure rack with Waiter.com catalogs. While we were gathering our lunch, we were struck by the new cover design for the Waiter.com Spring/Summer 2009 catalog.

It appears that Waiter.com has decided to copy the GetQuik marketing brochure. We'll let you decide for yourself. See a resemblance?

We are flattered that Waiter.com would decide to copy our brochure design. Waiter.com helped pioneer the restaurant agregation model, and has carved out a solid name for themselves in the Bay Area. We at GetQuik believe that utilizing a restaurant's service capability offers a far superior service and cost advantage over Waiter.com's full-service delivery offering. As we continue to expand the GetQuik network, the cost and service advantages of the GetQuik network become apparant to Bay Area customers. We welcome the competition from Waiter.com. May the best service win!

First Step

Congrats to Lindsay for registering the first restaurant through our newly minted "GetQuik Agent" program.

Lindsay has hit the ground running and this looks to be the first of many registrations to come.

Via Mia - Campbell is now live on the GetQuik network. As we get the kinks of the program, we expect to look to increase the pace of restaurant registrations to better service GetQuik customers.

As always, let us know if you would like to request a restaurant, send your request to sales@getquik.com.

GetQuik Back Up

Sorry for the delay. Our hosting company had a networking problem that took down a bunch of sites. We are crossing our fingers that the problem has been fixed for good. :)

Fail Kangaroo

Ok, so we don't have a fail kangaroo, so I borrowed Twitter's down mascot. We are waiting for our hosting provider to resolve their network problem. It is impacting numerous sites that they host at this time. Will post an update once they get it back up. Our hosting company went down around 2:35pm Pacific. So over and hour, but hopefully will be resolved shortly.

Need for Speed

We have introduced a massive set of features to the GetQuik site over the past 2-3 months.

New features include:

  • revamped reviews section;
  • new "request a restaurant" feature;
  • customer dashboard,
  • meal calendar,
  • popular meals, and
  • "refer a friend".
We are working to refine these features. The initial feedback from customers has been very positive.

The drawback to this feature storm is that our site performance has taken a hit. We are going to be taking a little breather on new feature introductions as we work towards improving the SQL code and addressing our server infrastructure.

Thank you for your patience as we work out our performance issues. We'll be providing an update in a few weeks regarding our performance project.

GetQuik Introduces Popular Meals - Alpha

We have added a new feature for GetQuik customers. For most GetQuik restaurants you will now see a "Popular Meals" section.

We will be refining the results that are shown. With this "popular meals" feature, customers will be able to view the more commonly ordered meals, and also be able to begin an order from one of these meal templates. Customers will also be able to add and edit the meal template to customize an order.

If you have any questions or recommendations in regards to this new feature, please email support@getquik.com.

Enjoy!

MySpace Getting TwitBooked

The rise of Twitter is seen as a challenge to the newly crowned social network king Facebook. The Twitter v Facebook collision is on course, and the primary victim of this pitched battle is MySpace. Facebook has built its network by attracting the average Joe, while Twitter is hot with movie, TV, and sports celebrities. MySpace is still the premiere social platform for musicians, but Twitter and Facebook are vying for this industry. Facebook has recently announced its Fan Box widget. While MySpace is losing visitors, Facebook is exploding its traffic. The question seems to be "when" rather than "if" bands will switch their allegiance from MySpace. Whether they choose Twitter or Facebook as their primary fan outreach is less clear.

As MySpace gets lean, it will be interesting to see if they will be able to figure a way back towards relevancy. MySpace is facing a future as the "AOL" of social networks if they don't quickly figure out a way to reinvent their sieged brand.

Social networking sites are able to serve as a one stop destination for huge gobs of time grabs. The social business is increasingly becoming a winner take all situation. As Facebook has finally caught and is leaving MySpace in the dust, the final hurdle towards total dominance is Twitter. The social wars are sure to be a much discussed chapter in the rapidly growing annals of Internet history. The last chapter is not quite complete, though the end game seems near. The odds favor Facebook, but the addition of Twitter to the conversation is adding spice to this previously foregone conclussion.

GetQuik Recent Additions - July 2009

Here are new restaurants to the GetQuik network:

Let us know if you have any requests - sales@getquik.com.

Wanted: GQ Special Agents

GetQuik is launching an agent program. GetQuik agents can earn commission by registering Bay Area restaurants to our network.

We will be signing 3-5 agents for the Bay Area for the pilot program. We will provide materials, training, and sales support to help agents succeed with their sales effort.

The position is ideal for those looking for a telecommute, flex-schedule opportunity. The commission structure is straight-forward. An agent earns $50 for each restaurant an agent registers.

We will be interviewing for the position.

Qualifications for ideal candidates:

  • honest,
  • self-starter,
  • good communication skills,
  • access to telecommute office with phones and Internet access,
  • positive attitude, and
  • confidence with cold-calling and/or canvasing.

GetQuik has a very simple restaurant registration proposition. No prior sales experience is necessary for this position.

Interested candidates can apply to our Craigslist ad: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/sls/1256140602.html
