MySpace Getting TwitBooked

The rise of Twitter is seen as a challenge to the newly crowned social network king Facebook. The Twitter v Facebook collision is on course, and the primary victim of this pitched battle is MySpace. Facebook has built its network by attracting the average Joe, while Twitter is hot with movie, TV, and sports celebrities. MySpace is still the premiere social platform for musicians, but Twitter and Facebook are vying for this industry. Facebook has recently announced its Fan Box widget. While MySpace is losing visitors, Facebook is exploding its traffic. The question seems to be "when" rather than "if" bands will switch their allegiance from MySpace. Whether they choose Twitter or Facebook as their primary fan outreach is less clear.

As MySpace gets lean, it will be interesting to see if they will be able to figure a way back towards relevancy. MySpace is facing a future as the "AOL" of social networks if they don't quickly figure out a way to reinvent their sieged brand.

Social networking sites are able to serve as a one stop destination for huge gobs of time grabs. The social business is increasingly becoming a winner take all situation. As Facebook has finally caught and is leaving MySpace in the dust, the final hurdle towards total dominance is Twitter. The social wars are sure to be a much discussed chapter in the rapidly growing annals of Internet history. The last chapter is not quite complete, though the end game seems near. The odds favor Facebook, but the addition of Twitter to the conversation is adding spice to this previously foregone conclussion.
