A Likeable Lawyer

When GetQuik was looking for legal representation, I asked a few friends who they would recommend. My friend Elliot had engaged Venture Law Group, who helped guide his former company Netcentives through an IPO process. The partner they worked with was Elias Blawie. Fast forward a few years, Venture Law Group is now a part of Heller Ehrman.
When I first met with Elias, I immediately liked him. Elias has worked with numerous startups throughout his career. He has knowledge and experience. As well, he is a very likeable dude. Calm and easy going. GetQuik's legal needs to date have been fairly straight forward. We recently cleaned up our corporate docs, and Elias and attorney Saxon Peters were instrumental in this process. Perhaps the thing I appreciate most about Elias' approach is that he looks for ways to minimize our legal bills, rather than proposing complex solutions that will run up our tab. His philosophy is to build good will and help a startup offload their legal burden in the hopes that the company will grow into a industry leader with expanded legal concerns which he and Heller can manage.
The rare combination of a nice lawyer, and one that thinks in terms of long term relationships. That is what Elias brings to the table. Those in Silicon Valley may want to consider his services for their corporate legal matters.

New Kid on the Block...
Hello World! I am the newest GetQuik intern and I thought I’d play narcissist for the day and introduce myself and tell you all a little about me. First off my name is Christina, but I go by Chris—Call me Chrissy and I may have to cut you—hehe. I’m all of 25 years of age, born and bred right here in the Bay Area. I absolutely love living here. I really cannot see myself living anywhere else. Such a fantastic melting pot to live in; with my diverse heritage I fit right in. Of course I could do without the traffic, that’s a given, but the weather, food and nightlife make the daily grind bearable. I’m a hardcore crafter--in fact my knitting needles should probably be registered as deadly weapons--I’ll give you a little bit of free advice…Don’t ever sneak up on a knitter. It’s bad. I also love sewing, my true or should I say current passion. I tend to be a little ADD when it comes to crafting, I pick one up put one down, but I do always come back to the sewing machine. I really wish more people crafted. There is nothing better than taking nothing and making something. Living in a world of mass produced, mediocre, 2 for 1 blue light specials actually making something original with your own two hands can be so rewarding and fulfilling. If there’s anything I’d like you to take from my little rant, it would be to get out there and try something new. Get
creative in your life; we all need an outlet to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Trust me.
Next Step, Scaling Up

A startup begins with assumptions, speculation, and hope. As the business goes into production mode, the assumptions are put to the test. Rare is the situation where the majority of the assumptions are correct. The team is faced with the task of tweaking the business model to deal with the real world realities. This early phase is both exciting and frustrating. Some experiments work out, while others turn out to be a waste of time and money (critical resources generally in short supply).
Then it happens. A winning formula is discovered. Unlike other seemingly promising experiments, this model has sustainable momentum. Let's take a fire analogy. You can ignite a fire with matches and lighter fluid. If the lighter fluid can not transfer its heat and flames to a more sustainable material such as firewood, the fire burns out as quickly as it ignited. However, if the lighter fluid does transfer its heat and flames to the firewood, then keeping the fire perpetually lit requires little effort. Simply throw on more firewood and let the fire do the rest of the work. A startup needs to recognize the difference between an artifically fueled success, and a sustainable one.
Once the business model proves to have organic and sustainable growth, then it is time to scale. The business challenges are still many, but the path to success is much clearer. Scaling at the right pace, recruiting the right resources, and managing cash flow is crucial during this period.

You Have Our Attention

This cover letter for GetQuik's intern position was too good NOT to share. Here it is.
---------------
Hello GetQuik!
I'm intrigued by the premise of your company, what is it exactly that you all do? Personally, I think you deserve to wait in line for a long time if you decide to pay $4 for a latte, but that's just me--hehe. I don't know if I have the background that you are looking for. I don't have a degree. I don't have software development experience, but I do have plenty of customer service and data entry experience. I like to think I'm very creative-I love brainstorming and coming up with new ideas. I'm also an aries, does that help? I'm probably not at all what your looking for, but I am truly interested in what your company does. Currently I work for ****** which would explain my genuine interest in your company. The words "No", "I Can't" and "I don't" are not part of our vocabulary here. I'm just looking for something part-time to earn some extra bucks. If your still reading and I sound like I might just be the whip-cream on your pumpkin pie, then send me a note and I can send you my resume.
Thanks!
